The people we encountered in Kenya were always smiling, wanting to sing for you, children waving, excited to share about their culture, and overall some of the most hospitable people I’ve ever been around. Within 2 days of being there, Chris and I knew we had to go back. The kids and teachers in the school we volunteered at, in Kibera (one of the largest slums in the world), did not need us there. The average may have so little physically compared to many in the USA, but are so rich in spirit. The children often walk miles alone to go to school, are eager to participate, share what they have with others, and help the teachers. The people working at the lodges we stayed in were genuinely invested in our enjoyment but also full of life when talking about their culture. I am honored to have gotten to serve where I could and to learn about a different way of life. You’re doing a lot of life right, Kenya. Asante sana, Tuonane tena. If I’m being honest, 2019 was the laziest in the gym I’ve ever been. 5 years of NFL cheering forced me to almost always watch what I eat and crush it in the gym. Getting married pushed me to stay in shape. But after...why yes, I want pizza and wine for dinner. I allowed myself to not give a f because I cared so much for SO long. And I probably needed a moment to just chill. 2019 taught me to take care of myself mentally rather than always grinding or trying to look a certain way. 2020 will be a balance of both. If you’re still reading, I’m posting this to hold myself accountable. And I’d love to cheer on anyone who is wanting to chase some goals this year here on insta. We’re stronger together and rather than social media being a place to compare, we can make it a place to motivate one another. 💪🏼
